• What inspired you to create "The Everly Brothers by Candlelight”? I’ve always been a huge fan of the Everly Brothers and have been involved with their music one way or another for several years. Their harmonies and the timeless quality of their music have had a big influence on me, and I wanted to create a show that honoured their legacy in a unique way. The idea of doing a show acoustically with a string quartet came to me because it adds a nostalgic and intimate feel that really suits their music—their songs have been performed in so many different ways over the decades, but this really felt like a new, exciting way of sharing those beautiful classics. We also wanted to evoke a sense of nostalgia and closeness, and candlelight was the perfect way to do that. It complements the music beautifully and adds an extra layer of emotion to the performance. • Can you share the journey from the initial idea to the final production of the show? It started with just a spark of an idea. I spent time diving into the Everlys’ music, picking out songs that I thought would resonate with the audience. Then came the concept of candlelight and the strings, which took a little experimenting to get to where we wanted it to be. After rehearsals and some tweaking, we found we had a show that felt just right. I think people will really enjoy hearing these songs in this intimate setting… It’s almost magical. • How did you select the songs to include in the show? Are there any personal favourites or hidden gems you wanted to highlight? Picking the songs was one of the best parts. We wanted to mix their big hits like "Bye Bye Love" and "Wake Up Little Susie" with some deeper cuts that fans might not know as well. Personally, I love "Kentucky" and "Let It Be Me." These songs really showcase their harmonies and emotional depth. • What challenges do you face in embodying Don Everly on stage? Performing the songs of Don Everly is a real honour, but it comes with challenges. The hardest part is capturing his unique vocal style and stage presence while still bringing my own spin to the role. It’s a fine line between staying true to him and adding my personal touch. • Can you tell us about your previous experiences as a musician and performer? How have they shaped your approach to this show? I’ve played in different bands and musical projects over the years, from rock to rockabilly to country. Each experience has taught me something valuable about stage presence and connecting with an audience—one of the best things for me about performing is being able to have fun with them and put them at ease. They’ve come for a really good night out, and we want to give them exactly that. • Can you describe your creative process when working on a musical production? How do you go from concept to stage-ready performance? My creative process starts with a clear vision. Then, it’s about selecting the right songs, creating a compelling narrative, and working on arrangements. Rehearsals are where everything comes together, and we make adjustments to perfect the performance. It’s a team effort, and every step is important to ensure the final show is polished and engaging. • How do you infuse your own personality and style into the show while staying true to the Everly Brothers' legacy? I bring my own style by adding personal anecdotes and interpretations of the songs. While it’s important to honour the Everly Brothers' legacy, I believe adding a personal touch makes the performance more relatable and engaging. It’s about finding that balance where the essence of their music is preserved, but with a fresh and unique twist.
